CRESCENT CITY, CA (January 21, 2011) – Rumiano Cheese Company proudly announced today that its entire organic cheese line, organic butter, and organic WPC-80% are the first in the world to achieve Non-GMO Project Verification. Rumiano Cheese Company has been producing all natural, grass–fed, rBST-free, kosher, real California cheese for over 90 years and is California’s oldest family owned cheese company.
Rumiano Cheese Company is the first and only cheese company in the world to have achieved this distinct verification for its organic products. “Rumiano Cheese Company is honored to be a pioneer in the Non-GMO Project for its dairy products. The Non-GMO Project is a very thorough verification process and will be a great addition to our entire organic dairy line,” said Joby Rumiano, Fourth Generation owner of Rumiano Cheese Company.
The Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program is the nation’s first and only system designed to test whether a product has met defined standards for the presence of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). GMOs are created in a laboratory through splicing various DNA from different species of organisms to create something that otherwise would not occur naturally. The Non-GMO Project is a third-party verification program that was created in response to consumer health concerns over Genetically Modified Organisms entering their food supply.

Rumiano Cheese Company organic products will now display the Non-GMO Project Verified Mark on its packaging and is now listed on the Non-GMO Project’s website, dev.nongmoproject.org, on the Search Participating Products page, as well as on the Non-GMO Project’s printable PDF and iPhone application shopping guides for consumers. Rumiano Cheese Company conventional cheese products are also enrolled in the Non-GMO Project and are awaiting verification.
