Business Development Manager 

The Non-GMO Project is currently seeking a Business Development Manager to improve the organization’s market position and achieve financial growth of the Product Verification Program. The Non-GMO Project is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. The Business Development Manager will report directly to the Client Services Director and will work with the Client Services team to further develop our rapidly growing verification program. 

The successful candidate will have business development, customer service, and technical support experience, and be comfortable working in a mission-driven organization. Will need to be able to understand our highly technical Standard and translate it for various stakeholders along the supply chain. Must be organized, detail-oriented and have a friendly demeanor.   

Responsibilities

  • Prospect for new clients and increase participation in the Product Verification Program
  • Cold call as appropriate to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities
  • Identify and develop opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in Program revenue
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company’s database
  • Research and develop a thorough understanding of the prospect company’s people and capabilities
  • Work with other departments and internal colleagues to meet customer needs
  • Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met; track and record activity on accounts and help to increase conversion rates
  • Conduct business reporting and provide recommendations on strategic markets
  • Support the organization’s invoicing process by generating monthly reports
  • Present to and consult with mid- and senior-level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels
  • Meet potential clients in strategic market sectors by growing, maintaining, and leveraging a network of key contacts
  • Maintain and define relationships with key accounts by offering additional customer service
  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences (approximately one per month)

Requirements

  • Approximately 5-10 years of proven track record in business sales, management or related market
  • Preferred Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from accredited university with a focus on business, marketing, communications, environmental studies, science, or similar field OR equivalent work experience
  • Excellent organizational skills, with emphasis on prioritizing and goal setting
  • Superior presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate complex, technical concepts in a clear and simple manner
  • Proficiency working in database systems, Google Drive and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a highly collaborative team, while handling multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong time and task management skills; ability to manage multiple client situations, needs and inquiries simultaneously
  • Must be able to develop and maintain good cross-department working relationships
  • Interest in the natural foods industry, sustainability, and/or consumer health and wellbeing
  • Able to travel ~25%

Standards and Guidance Coordinator

The Non-GMO Project is seeking a Standards and Guidance Coordinator to join our mission-driven team. The Non-GMO Project is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. Reporting to the Standards Manager, the Standards and Guidance Coordinator plays an essential role in supporting the team with projects related to the development and interpretation of the Standard.

A successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven organization. They must be able to stay on task with multiple projects with shifting deadlines. Experience in/understanding of manufacturing/supply chain strongly preferred. Experience with standard, certification, and/or accreditation programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Standards Manager with the coordination of public comment periods on the Non-GMO Project Standard by:
    • Providing technical support to inform the development of the Standard
    • Coordinating outreach efforts to various stakeholders seeking to provide input on the Standard
    • Maintaining a stakeholder database for each public comment period
    • Supporting the creation and management of Standard advisory groups
    • Supporting the development of standard operating procedures
    • Organizing reference materials related to Standard revisions
  • Support the Standards Manager with the development of guidance and Technical Administrator trainings by:
    • Supporting standard operating procedure development for guidance releases and Technical Administrator trainings
    • Performing research to assist with the appropriate interpretation of the Standard
    • Drafting guidance and training materials
    • Assisting with Technical Administrator communications through the online Technical Administrator Portal
  • Support the creation and launch of new programs resulting from Standard development
  • Coordinate Standard-related web content development
  • Manage standard@nongmoproject.org e-mail and respond to Standard-related e-mail
  • Coordinate conference calls/Go-To-Meeting technical events and take minutes

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field
  • 2 – 5 years related professional experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of biology, microbiology, biochemistry, agriculture, statistics or similar field
  • Professional experience in manufacturing/supply chain strongly preferred
  • Professional experience with standards, certification and/or accreditation is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a knack for diplomacy
  • Solid computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office and internet research; experience with databases preferred
  • A strong sense of order and organization
  • A warm, friendly and outgoing demeanor
  • Ability to learn quickly and think strategically
  • Preference will be given to those sincerely committed to preserving a non-GMO food supply

Part-time Outreach Assistant

The Non-GMO Project is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, creative professional to join our team as a part-time Marketing & Outreach Assistant.

The successful candidate will be a strong writer and editor, highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic and quick to learn. Must have the ability to be proactive and able to stay on task with multiple projects and shifting deadlines. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated interest in helping to protect the future of the North American food supply.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to email inquiries
  • Providing public relations support; Research and data gathering
  • Updating and maintaining PR library and files
  • Providing trademark enforcement support
  • Creating engaging content for consumers and retailers, including blogs, electronic newsletters, and outreach materials
  • Coordinating production of printed materials
  • Updating websites using WordPress
  • Supporting the Marketing and Outreach team in meeting and exceeding deadlines
  • Tracking and reporting marketing efforts
  • Continually updating and correcting database records
  • Assembling supporter kits for events and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director and/or Marketing and Outreach Managers; General administrative duties

Requirements

Part-Time Research & Survey Intern

The Non-GMO Project is currently seeking a part-time intern to join the Client Services Team to help with primary market research, specifically survey reporting. The Non-GMO Project is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices.

This is a great opportunity to learn how to work in a professional environment and to gain insight on the inner workings of a nonprofit. We value our interns and aspire to give them a learning experience that will be in line with their career goals.  We are happy to work with interns in receiving school credit and acknowledgement.

Responsibilities

  • Mining database for contact information
  • Create mailing lists
  • Clean contact information
  • Create mail merge using electronic survey platform
  • Send out the survey
  • Compile responses in a report format

Requirements

Applicants should have a passion for sustainability and a basic understanding of the GMO issue (further education, including recommended reading, are part of the internship). In addition to aligned values, applicants should have;
